A placement may help students develop patient-history taking, clinical communication, physical examination, case discussion and clinical documentation skills alongside the local healthcare team. Depending on your training level and the placement plan, learning may include observing ward or outpatient activity, discussing cases with supervisors and observing selected procedures.

Any participation in patient care is determined by the supervising clinician, local regulations, patient consent and your demonstrated competence. Students must remain within their authorised scope and should not assume that hands-on participation or access to a particular procedure is guaranteed.

This placement may be of interest to students considering emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, women’s health or global health. Actual clinical exposure varies with the patients attending during the placement period.
