How to Apply for a Medical Internship in Zanzibar, Tanzania

Required Application Documents
Please prepare the following documents for your medical elective application:
- Letter of recommendation and confirmation of good academic standing from your university or medical school
- Academic transcript from your university or medical school
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Motivation letter describing your learning goals and personal expectations (approximately 4–5 pages)
- Copy of your passport — national identity cards cannot be accepted as a substitute
- Passport-style photograph for your student ID
- Completed online application form
- Immunisation record; please clarify any additional documentation required for your placement and travel itinerary before departure
- Proof of health insurance covering your entire stay in Tanzania
- Proof of payment of the application fee, once payment instructions have been provided

Accommodation During Your Stay in Zanzibar
Accommodation is available approximately 300 metres from Real Care Hospital in Nungwi. The listed facilities include furnished rooms, Wi-Fi, a kitchen and laundry facilities, with an optional breakfast arrangement. Please indicate your accommodation needs when applying so that availability and arrangements can be confirmed.

Insurance and Preparation
You are responsible for obtaining suitable health insurance covering your entire stay in Tanzania. Proof of coverage must be provided before your internship begins. Please clarify any additional requirements related to your clinical placement with our team and your home university before departure.
Academic Recognition of Your Medical Elective
Applicants are responsible for confirming that their home university or the relevant authority will recognise the placement. MedoPolo cannot guarantee academic credit or recognition, as requirements vary between institutions and programmes. Please obtain clarification before submitting your application.
If you plan to complete a medical elective, Famulatur or part of your practical year (PJ) in Zanzibar, please share the applicable requirements with us in advance. These may include supervision arrangements, assessment forms and placement certificates.
